Ethan Wattley, LMHC, CT

Welcoming you to step into your full potential.

How Do I work?

I believe very strongly in the healing power of relationships. I will greet you with open-hearted presence. It’s an invitation to slow down, to invite curiosity, not shame into your own internal experience. There’s nothing that we can’t explore. As we speak, I might prompt you to notice elements of thoughts, images, or sensations in real-time. I will help you untangle what interpretations and narratives you’re automatically layering over your current experience. When nothing is off the table within a supportive conversation, you can understand your own boundaries, needs, desires, and wants in a new way.

One of my guiding principles comes from Carl Rogers: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”

I’ve studied a range of therapeutic models, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Core Energetics, Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic and Holotropic Breathwork. I am AASECT certified as a Sex Therapist. All of these models support a way of showing up with openness and fostering a conversation that brings our attention to what is, with gentleness around what you want it to be.

A through-line in these trainings is that the work we do together is about creating the proper environment for the healing to unfurl.  To quote Karen Horney “You need not, and in fact cannot, teach an acorn to grow into an oak tree, but when given a chance, its intrinsic potentialities will develop. Similarly, the human individual, given a chance, tends to develop…the unique alive forces of his real self; the clarity and depth of his own feelings, thoughts, wishes, interests; the ability to tap his own resources, the strength of his will power…All this will in time enable him to find his set of values and aims in life. In short, he will grow, substantially undiverted, toward self-realization.” I have faith that you can know what you need if we slow down and listen, with enough support and safety to be who you are without judgement.

What I offer is to stay present with you throughout your process, with intentionality to create a safe environment to explore.
